Mar Con Builders has an exceptional opportunity for an Assistant Superintendent to establish themselves with a growing company offering the potential for future personal growth and leadership opportunities. We are looking for a self-driven talented Assistant Superintendent who has aspirations for advancement to perform the following:

Assistant Superintendent Responsibilities

  • Supervisor and coordinate installation of work in accordance with the contract documents, project schedule, and the planned sequence o work. Be aware of project milestone dates and the requirements to achieve them.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the Contract Documents and the scope of work for the specific area(s) or trade(s) assigned.
  • Develop an understanding of the duration of each activity.
  • Apply knowledge of equipment capability and develop plans for optimum utilization.
  • Know the scheduled delivery dates for all material and equipment that have a direct effect on the area(s) / trade(s) assigned.
  • Supervise field workforce to assure that all work is put in place in the most cost-effective manner. Know the budgets for work that is being supervised.
  • Determine causes and develop remedies when costs are not in line with budget, estimate, and/ or reasonable expectations.
  • Implement the safety program. Conduct regular, scheduled and unscheduled, safety inspections to assure all working conditions and work habits are in compliance with company and government standards. Take remedial action when required. Establish a procedure for hazard recognition at the beginning of every new activity. Be thoroughly knowledgeable of all the company’s safety standards, manuals, and procedure.
  • Maintain good working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related disincline.
  • 3 to 6 years of construction management experience in a field supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others including subcontractors and suppliers
  • Working knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpowered.
  • Well versed in safety and government regulations (e.g. OSHA) with success in implementation on a job site.

We are seeking estimators with at least five years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on hard bid and negotiated commercial projects within our core markets and work closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors. Responsibilities for this position and required skills are:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead projects from first estimate through formalization of subcontracts.
  • Determine scope of work and required contents of estimates by reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, attending pre-estimate meetings, and analyzing request for proposals/bid requirements.
  • Provide complete conceptual and final estimating input on complex projects.
  • Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  • Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and labor figures.
  • Assist contracting department during preparation of inquiries and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.
  • Track awarded contracts as required including estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit; procuring materials on major work items.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to develop a complete estimate package that clearly communicates project costs and variability/potential risks.
  • Must have experience with the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, etc.
  • Ability to prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages.
  • Significant experience and skill in preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic documents.
  • Ability to look beyond the information and ask the right questions to provide a complete project cost evaluation.
  • Ability to make reliable predictions on cost.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions for issues related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials.
  • Ability to develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies.
  • Must be able to collaborate with project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction costs.
  • Make subcontractor recommendations to owners; negotiate and finalize subcontracts with trade partners.
  • Experience supporting request for proposal responses (RFP’s) and interviews.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed, highly organized and focused.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in in Construction Management or related field is preferred.
  • Five years of experience in estimating and 10+ years in the construction industry is preferred.
  • On-Center, Quick bid Software experience preferred.

The Project Engineer monitors activities at construction job sites and works closely with Project Managers to ensure projects are progressing on schedule and according to contract specifications. This position reports directly to the Project Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect construction site daily and works with contractors to schedule deliveries.
  • Interpret designs and drawings for crafts installing materials and qualifications.
  • Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference, and errors.
  • Prepare field design change requisitions and “as-built” drawings, as required.
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor.
  • Verify that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Review and comment on the viability of design as required. Conducts value engineering functions.
  • Attend meetings with other contractors, clients, or A/E representatives to coordinate design and construction efforts.
  • Provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials or equipment.
  • Observe construction work performed in the field.
  • Create and process RFI’s.
  • Participate in job walks and documents and reports findings.
  • Regularly review quality control plan and take weekly photos to documenting any quality control issues.
  • Research and propose solutions to quality control issues.
  • Generate queries and reports in Prolog software.
  • Review and maintenance of Quality Assurance/Quality Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Understands company safety program and participates in safety inspections.
  • Create specification checklists.
  • Review submittals against specifications. Understands subcontractor job specifications and scope of work.
  • Review mock-up and/or shop drawings and specifications.
  • Attend meetings and transcribe detailed meeting minutes clearly, precisely and accurately.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs.
  • Analyze and resolves construction process problems and issues, and effectively communicates and interfaces with all levels of personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations to include health, safety, and welfare as appropriate.
  • Exercise creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks accurately in a compressed time frame.
  • Perform work tasks by receiving direction and then working independently with an interest in quickly learning and applying new skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrate consistent ability to be dependable, consistent, diligent, and thorough.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Good written and oral communications and team skills.
  • Performs work tasks by receiving direction and then working independently with an interest in quickly learning and applying new skills and abilities.
  • Computer Equipment and Software:

The Project Manager oversees activities at construction job sites and works closely with Superintendents and Project Engineers to ensure projects are progressing on schedule and according to contract specifications. The Project Manager will coordinate schedules, budgets, and resources and communicate directly with contractors, designers and owners on project progress including project costs, staffing, and scheduling. This position reports to the Project Executive.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include, but are not limited to: interviewing, hiring, training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, delegating and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and resolving employee issues.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor jobsite safety and takes appropriate action to address and correct deficiencies.
  • Negotiate contract with Client/Owner, maintains positive relationships and resolves disputes.
  • Maintain communication with Operations Manager.
  • Demonstrate complete understanding and awareness of the contract and the ability to estimate, recognize changes and take appropriate action.
  • Assist in preparing the progress payment and obtaining approval.
  • Develop cash flow projection with Project Controller and submits to Home Office and Owner (if required).
  • Approve Time and Material rates.
  • Correspond with Client/Owner/Architect and Subcontractors.
  • Monitor Client/Owner required reports (prepared by Contracts Manager, Scheduler, Document Control).
  • Monitor back charges and log.
  • Chair de-scoping meetings.
  • Update procurement log.
  • Approve final bid packages to sub-contractor list.
  • Review pay application with owners.
  • Prepare and distributes delay notices to owner and architect per contract conditions.
  • Negotiate sub-contractor changes.
  • Provide proactive claims protection.
  • Track and monitor all cost reports. (AR/AP, Job cost percentage and production reports)
  • Provide up-to-date input on all project quantities and units.
  • Update all labor and unit projections.
  • Monitor third party work authorization.
  • Approve payments to suppliers and Subcontractors.
  • Review PCO quotes, negotiates changes and claims protection.
  • Monitor EEO and Affirmative Action programs.
  • Settle union jurisdictional disputes in coordination with Superintendent.
  • Maintain Union relations.
  • Make work assignments.
  • Monitor schedule and participates in schedule meetings.
  • Submit Insurance claims to Safety Engineer.
  • Attend weekly coordination meetings.
  • Monitor CCIP activities and safety program.
  • Chair Architect/Owner/Contractor meetings and generates and distributes accurate minutes.
  • Analyze and resolve construction process problems and issues and effectively communicate and interface with all levels of personnel.

  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Demonstrated schedule understanding in coordination with construction logistics and construction sequencing.
  • Understanding of PCO process and minimal ability in identifying PCO/change orders.
  • Understanding of construction scheduling in coordination with construction logistics and sequencing.

    scale and complexity, 2) a particular scope(s), subcontractor(s), or other portion(s) of the project.
  • Provide on-the-job training opportunities for Assistant Superintendents and Project/Office Engineers. Encourage and/ or participates in staff training and development.
  • Develop a plan for the sequence of work. Develop project schedule. Plan and organize project work to assure all work is in place in accordance with contract document.
  • Have working knowledge of owner contract, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Know submittal schedule delivery dates for all critical path material and equipment.
  • Know submittal schedule.
  • Update project schedule monthly and in accordance with contract documents.
  • Control field costs for Clark and subcontract work. Supervise field workforce to assure all work is put in place in the most cost-efficient manager.
  • Schedule and monitor field productivity.
  • Have a good working knowledge of equipment.
  • Implement safety program. Conduct regular safety inspections to assure all working conditions and work habits are in compliance with company, contact and government standards. Take remedial action when required.
  • Implement the company’s safety policies and procedures and corporate QC policies and programs.
  • Assist in resolution of scope conflicts.
  • Participate in the project management functions.
  • Assure punch list is completed in a timely manner.
  • Participate in marketing proposals and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Undergrad degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related discipline and/or.
  • 6+ years of experience with a large-scale commercial contractor or equivalent industry experience.
  • Hospital and/ or medical facility experience (OSHPD).
  • Experience with a large-scale commercial contractor or equivalent industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpower, etc.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations (i.e., OSHA).
